Hello There!

👋 Hello world, we meet again

I’m pretty sure I had hair the last time I sat down to write a blog for an audience that wasn’t going to be semi-forced to read it in Confluence (sorry, not sorry!) but I feel like it’s time to start that up again.

Why now though?!

Why, with the millions upon millions of blogs, and the AI-generated slop threatening to consume the web, would I feel like now’s the time to throw my 2 cents back into the mix?

Well, because it feels good! And thanks to growing up in the pre-streaming music era and CanCon rules I’m fully aware that if it feels good, do it!

What’s this blog about?

My plan is to keep this blog centered around topics most of us will grapple with when working in tech, leading/building/growing teams, or just generally trying to figure out how to get stuff done. From time to time I may toss up something more personal, though the personal stuff will be put through the filter of “would sharing this information help someone else?” vs. the more mundane personal stuff like “here’s what I thought of this frozen pizza” .

So this is yet another tech bro “thought leader” blog?

How dare you! ;) First off, I’m no “tech bro” and that’s just offensive. Second, these are my thoughts, observations, opinions, and experiences and I’m quite aware I’m just a dude sitting on a big rock hurtling around a star, figuring out life on the fly the same as a few billion others… I’m most assuredly no “thought leader” (and that’s also kind of offensive). Everything you read here is worth only the value you assign to it (🥇 || 💩 … 🤔 🤷)

This said, I feel like I have a few things worth sharing. I’ve been working in tech for nearly a quarter century at this point, building and leading teams for a solid chunk of that time, and I’ve learned a few things along the way. I’ve learned through my own experiments & tests, successes & failures, and plenty of observation. …and you know how else I’ve learned?

I’ve learned by reading the books, blogs, tweets, articles, bathroom-wall-scrawlings, and various other mediums where others have taken the time to share what they’ve learned. Whether they shared purely to pass on knowledge or because they were chasing fortune and glory , I appreciate them sharing. I learned. I improved. I grew. ☺️

So that’s it - that’s the ultimate reason I’m doing this. I want to put some of the things I’ve learned out there with the hope it’ll be beneficial to others. Paying it forward and hopefully doing it in a way that’ll get a chuckle every once in a while. Life’s way too short to be serious all the time.
